Murphy

Feb 18

Our poor Murphy is having a terrible time, we are needing lots of prayers and positive thoughts.

In my last post I told about the infection Murphy had gotten after his surgery. Well it has gone from bad to WAY WORSE…..first he somehow worked out a couple of stitches and had to be sedated and re-stitched, at that time the vet left a hole for drainage…on the day he was to get his stitches out the Dr. said because of the re-stitching and the infection he wanted to wait on the removal of stitches….his one hole for drainage turned into two holes that were very close together with just a strip of flesh seperating them. When we woke up this morning it had turned into one enormous hole that you could see way into. We called the vet. and of cource he was back in the hospital by 7AM. I had spoken to the vet. previously about doing a culture on the wound but he didn’t think it was necessary, so today they did a culture..
and he is spending yet another night away from home..

Needless to say we are all worried sick about our wonderful baby, and the mood around here is pretty grim…

Hopeing for the best.

Oh gosh! Just catching up on your last blog and now this one…ugh!!

Good for you for insisting kn the culture! You can get the right antibiotics, get him all patched up and get this behind you!

How is his overall attitude? Eating, drinking, etc.?

What are they doing for him while having him stay overnight?

Murphy may have ro have some “packing” and some bandage changing, but hopefully now they can get a handle on this and get him all healed up.

I know it’s insane to tell you not to worry, but try! Just visualize this “wound”
healing up nicely and Murphy getting on with living his life to the fullest..because that is what’s going to happen!!

Update tomorrow, or as soon as you can. Paws crossed for a speedy recovery!

    Love and hugs!

Oh I know how hard this is. Lily was so ill before amputation, she had MRSA, was day to day. I could not see her she was in rescue 5 hours away. She lost over half her body weight. The tissue at the surgery site became necrotic, she had a bleed and needed two units canine blood and one plasma. She was a very very sick little dog. But you know what? She survived, she is fat, sassy and healthy today 10 months later. Would I fret over a dog I wanted to adopt who was so sick again? Yep, I sure would.

Give everything time to get healed and love that baby through it all. Things will get better.

I’m so sorry that Murp is having a rough time. I sure hope the doc can get it all cleaned out and get him on some antibiotics that will take care of it. I have seen other pups here get infections at their wounds so I know it can happen. I’m sure it is scary so I’m sending positive thoughts your way.

I am glad they are doing the culture. These vets and not wanting to just do them! Ask about having a drain placed instead of just a hole?? It is something you can manage at home along with antibiotics. How long till culture comes back? I know the waiting is brutal! Thinking of you, Lori, Ty and Gang

Ohhhh dang. I hope today is better. That is SO scary. We have our paws crossed that this isn’t MRSA but if so, please read this important info & share with your vet OK?
